Training

At Match Point Farm Tennis, we teach fundamentals, techniques, and strategy.  Below are a few examples. Enjoy the game of tennis!

The Serve

Nothing is more intimidating or exciting than the serve.  It is the only time when a player has full control of the game, figuratively in their hands. We will cover ball toss, stance, balance, agility, power, accuracy, strategy, placement, spin, and confidence. Whether you are a novice or an experienced player, the serve will typically make or break your game performance.  At Match Point Farm Tennis, we have the goal of every athlete being confident in their serve.  If you enjoy serving, you’ll love the game of tennis forever.

Backhand

After the serve, the backhand is typically the most challenging part of tennis.  One again, proper technique is critical to create consistency.  We teach one-hand and/or two-hand backhand strokes. We will work until a healthy level of confidence has been achieved.  We will utilize different training techniques (hand feed, ball machine, drills, game situations, and rallies) to ensure consistency and to build confidence. Once we have reached a level of consistency, we will incorporate elements such as power, various spins, slice, drop-shots, lobs, etc.

Strategy

At Match Point Farm Tennis, we believe strategy can be taught at all levels of play.  The game becomes more pleasurable when you combine the physical and mental components.  How can you beat the opponent who is more consistent, hits the ball harder, and has more experience?  Strategy.  Can you pinpoint the weaknesses of the other player(s)?  Can you take advantage of your strengths?  Can you set up points to win?  Can movement and positioning give you an advantage?  We will integrate strategic planning and execution during every lesson and drill.

Forehand

Since the forehand is the most common shot in tennis, the forehand dictates your level of mastery. The measurement formula is based on consistency, not power.  At Match Point Farm Tennis, we encourage all the athletes to focus on consistency of forehand first and foremost.  This is where proper technique is fundamental to becoming a good or great tennis player.  We will break down the swing and incorporate the proper techniques to ensure consistent hitting and confidence.  Once consistency has been achieved, then we will proceed to add other skills such as slice, drop-shots, lobs, overhands, hitting winners, setting up points, etc.

Volleys

Being at the net or approaching the net is one of the most exhilarating aspects of tennis.  Many players fear the net.  Others love it.  Whether you like net play or not, volleys often are the difference between winning a match or losing.  At Match Point Farm Tennis, the first mission of teaching volleys is to love the approach.  We call it, “Monopoly” because like the game, it is all about real estate.  If you come to the net, you are taking control of the free land in front of you.  With that land, comes the ability to hit winners more often.  We will teach how to approach, positioning, split-step, racket positioning, strategies, and much more.
